The man who changed the world

Here's a short timeline of his life:

  • 1856: Born in Smiljan, Austrian Empire (modern-day Croatia)
  • 1875: Enrolled at Austrian Polytechnic in Graz, Austria but never graduated
  • 1880: Arrived in Prague and attended Charles-Ferdinand University as an auditor
  • 1881: Moved to Budapest, Hungary, to work at Budapest Telephone Exchange
  • 1882: Moved to Paris, France, to work for the Continental Edison Company
  • 1884: Emigrated to the United States and started working at Edison Machine Works
  • 1885: Left Edison Machine Works and worked on an improved arc lighting system
  • 1887: Developed an induction motor
  • 1891: Became a naturalized citizen of the United States and in the same year, invented the Tesla coil
  • 1893: Invented Tesla's oscillator, and in the same year, contract was awarded to Westinghouse Electric to build an AC system at Niagara Falls, based on Tesla's advice and Westinghouse's demonstration at the Columbian Exposition that they could build a complete AC system
  • 1896: Experimented with X-ray
  • 1898: Demonstrated a radio remote controlled boat at Madison Square Garden
  • 1906: Demonstrated a bladeless turbine
  • 1943: Died at the age of 86 in New York City, New York, United States

The scientific man does not aim at an immediate result. He does not expect that his advanced ideas will be readily taken up. His work is like that of the planter - for the future. His duty is to lay the foundation for those who are to come, and point the way. He lives and labors and hopes.
